History
Where ancient and modern exist in perfect harmony… Discreetly tucked away, Highgrove’s peaceful setting has long played a part in Carlisle’s history. It was the site of a mill as far back as the 11th century which thrived through to the 1950’s when it was the last water-driven mill in the region. In1958, the then derelict Edwardian mill was purchased by Richard James Harrison, who turned it into a livestock farm. A chance encounter in a nearby wood led Richard to meet his beloved wife Hazel. Together they ran the farm for over 30 years and created the happy home known to their sons Christopher and Simon Harrison, the developers of Highgrove.
The Harrison brothers identified the potential of the locale and went on to convert various farm buildings into the well known Harraby Green Business Park where businesses and residential homes blend to create a unique ‘village’ setting.
